Gun-Grabbers Furious That Gun Laws Apply to Them, Too
I feel like Beetlejuice: I’ve seen gun-grabbers get mad at their own laws 167 times, and it just keeps getting funnier…
The Coronavirus pandemic is doing much more than making people sick; it’s exposing sicknesses that have been eating at the heart of the Second Amendment for decades. Those of us who support the right to keep and bear arms have known for a very long time that there are a number of laws, both federal and state, that do infringe on that right…and that we have, collectively, accepted some of the lesser infringements as compromises (although as individuals we’re still pretty annoyed). That’s why it’s so knee-slappingly hilarious to us every time we hear about the shock and anger of the anti-gunners when they realize that those laws they touted as “reasonable” and “common sense” are, in fact, neither.
As we’ve mentioned here before, one of the Second Amendment’s most indefatigable defenders is the NRA’s first woman president, a Florida woman named Marion Hammer–never has anyone been more aptly named, and that is a compliment–and she’s been serving up some absolutely delicious schadenfreude coming from that state. Today, because we could all use a laugh, we’re presenting the latest hot cup of tea from the Sunshine State. Take it away, Marion!
An employee of a Florida Gun Shop called me last week to let us know that a very liberal customer was quite angry that he could not pick out a gun, pay for it and walk out of the store with it. This is the story he shared in pretty much his own words:Â
After filling out the 4473 Form, and showing his drivers license, the customer was annoyed that he had to go through a background check. He angrily questioned, “Don’t you know who I am?” (He is a City Commissioner) When I told him it didn’t matter, he said it was a waste of resources to do background checks on law-abiding people and said the law obviously “needed exceptions.”Â
He got more angry that the background check took almost 20 minutes, and said, “there is no excuse for it to take this long.” Once he cleared the background check and paid for the handgun, he about blew a gasket when he found out that he had to wait 3 days and come back before being allowed to take possession of the handgun and walk out with it. Â
He DEMANDED to know “Why can’t I take it now? I need it now.” He was not happy to hear that it was the LAW. He then explained, “I hate guns and I have supported gun control in the past but this is damned ridiculous. When you need a gun you should be able to get it.”Â
He then stormed out of the gun shop.Â
Of course, this hasn’t been the only example of how upset anti-gunners get at the gun-store counter when it turns out that the employee does not, in fact, Know Who They Are (or particularly Give a Crap). There are many others, which Ms. Hammer pointed out by sharing this article from Redstate.com. Here’s my favorite part, coming from a gun store in California:
More than a dozen of these buyers (men and women) actually thought that since they filled out and signed everything, they could just walk out and go home with the firearm. Several actually said they saw how easy it was to buy a gun on TV and why did they have to fill out all these forms.
The majority of these first timers lost their minds when we went through the Ammo Law requirements. Most used language not normally heard, even in a gun range. We pointed out that since no one working here voted for these laws, then maybe they might know someone who did. And, maybe they should go back and talk to those people and tell them to re-think their position on firearms – we were trying to be nice.
Most were VERY vocal about why it takes 10 days minimum (sometimes longer if the DOJ is backed up) to take their property home with them. They ask why do I need to wait 10 days if I need the protection today or tomorrow? We pointed out again that no one working here voted in support of that law.
My most fervent hope is that this moment will teach the anti-gunners of America that the Founding Fathers said what they meant and meant what they said when they drafted the Bill of Rights. That those rights apply to all of us; that they are our natural rights, and that the government doesn’t “give” them to us; and that it is better to have a gun and not need it than it is to need a gun and not have it. Perhaps that’s overly optimistic, but there’s nothing like a good belly laugh first thing in the morning to make us feel hopeful for the future.
Here’s another piece of good news to polish up this Quarantine Thursday: From now through midnight on May 9, you can support the Second Amendment and (possibly) win a beautiful Henry Golden Boy rifle as well as a Rainier Arms Glock G43, as well as terrific prizes from U.S. Law Shield, Federal Ammunition, N8 Tactical and more with our Second Amendment, First Defense Guns & Gear Giveaway!
